Another day…

So Noel continues to do well…at least she is moving around pretty well. She is interested in getting up and eating, drinking and going to the bathroom. So those are all good signs. The vet called today to check in on my girl. I did have concerns that her chest/abdomen area are really red, like blood under the surface. The incision looks great..no weeping or extreme swelling. The vet didn’t seemed concerned about the redness because of her appetite. She seems to be swelling around the incision though. The area below her right leg even looks like a big fatty flap. She is lean and muscular so its definitely swelling. Its scary though because its in pockets along her abdomen. It is not just one big swollen area, but sections. I read about seromas. Does this seem like it could be that? If so, I read the body often reabsorbs the fluid. So, at what point is it a problem and in need of being drained?

Sorry so brief, but its been a long few days with little spare time. Going to go snuggle next to my 3 legged baby.

  1. I don’t know anything about what you are describing but someone suggested to me when I brought Shelby home to photograph her wound site each day so I could check for improvements OR changes (for the worse). Shelby was a rear-amp and there was a decent amount of swelling at first and we did ice (a bit) and stuff like that.

    Good luck!

  2. Glad to hear Noel is doing well…..co sideringit’s just a few dayspast MAJOR surgery.

My Happ Hannahhad a seroma….she had awfullooking bruising all around her amp. site. The seroma itself never oozed and there was never any real discharge from the stitches.

It was just…as some described it…a huge, saggy boob hanging down…she was a rear leg amp…she also had swelling all arou d her incision, especially on the “u der side” of the incisin line…if that makes sense. As I recall, she also had some swelling in the inside of her remaining rear leg.

Seromas can definitely be caused by too mich activity too soon….or not!

A lot of muscles, tissue, etc. jas been removed’ rearranged and fluid is still adjustng as it no longer has a place t go. It was a good two weeks at least before the fluid startng subsiding inher case.

Do get it checked out though…..an email pic t te vet should doit.

No awful smell r discharge? If answer is “no”, tht’s good.

Hang in there…..the first two weeks are pretty bumpy!

    Hugs!
